Vibration monitoring system is a set of tools used to measure one or more parameters in order toidentify changes in the behavior of the machinery. In Fact, the main purpose of these systems is to help in scheduling the maintenance activities based on a process called Predictive Analysis.

Machine vibration monitoring is the most widespread method to determine the health of rotating equipment. Considering machine repair or replacement costs, loss of production, quality problems, environmental impact and other negative effects of deteriorating machine condition, the implementation of vibration monitoring is well justified.

The eMT800 Vibration Transmitter (1 or 2 Channel) is microprocessor based fully programmable device, designed to meet industrial environment and is very reliable and accurate employing the latest technology. All the units undergo stringent tests to assure quality performance. Large Fans and Blowers (ID, FD, SA, PA etc.) are used in process plants for moving air or gases; they are essential for cooling, heating or transporting product. They usually are centrifugal or axial driven and commonly develop erosion and/or corrosion and/or deposition on the blades. This results in a progressive increase in vibrations. And build-up of dirt or cake on a fan’s impellor is quite normal. However, not always are these faults progressive and predictive but, should a dirt piece become detached then suddenly the rotor becomes out of balance, and if ignored, consequential damage to the drive motor’s bearings and coupling will result. This can be extremely destructive and threaten personnel and plant safety. The loss of a single line Fan or Blower can shut down the process causing significant production and financial losses. The re transmission analogue signal can be trended in DCS/PLC to monitor defect progression and plan maintenance considering production schedule and fix the problem before catastrophic failure. RS485 Modbus RTU or GSM or RS232 connectivity is also available as an option.

Recomonded Measurement Positions:

Locating the vibration sensors as indicated in the schematic will be most sensitive and effective in detecting the above faults listed. The sensor orientations are summarised as follows:

  • HORIZONTAL on two motor bearings (A & B) and two fan bearings (C&D). B&C ideally recommended
  • VERTICAL on motor & fan drive end bearings (B&C).
  • AXIAL on motor & fan drive end bearings (B&C). B or C is recommended

The eMT350 Loop Powered Vibration Transmitter (Single Channel) is most suited for general Balance of Plant Rotating Machinery whereby the vibration signals are often converted to 4-20mA DC and interfaced to the DCS loop power system and trended to monitor machine defect progression. The overall vibration is sufficient enough to include basic machine faults. The PLC or the DCS are configured for the full scale range and compare vibration level with predefined Alarm and Trip levels.However, for analysis purposes TWF AC raw signal is provided in the front panel on a BNC connector, as an option.The unit can accept input from most sensors and unlike Loop Powered sensors, eMT350 and its sensor can be calibrated periodically meeting ISO9000 requirement.For field applications, the IP65 or IP66 enclosure are available, as required, to accommodate 1, 2, 4 or 8 number of eMT350’s.The re-transmission analogue signal can be trended in DCS/PLC to monitor defect progression and plan maintenance considering production schedule and fix the problem before catastrophic failure.
